How (Not) To Ask A Boy To Prom Review

“I like plants”

– S. J. Goslee

Synopsis

Nolan Grant is sixteen, gay, and very, very single. He’s never had a boyfriend, or even been kissed. It’s not like Penn Valley is exactly brimming with prospects. Nolan plans to ride out the rest of his junior year drawing narwhals, working at the greenhouse, and avoiding anything that involves an ounce of school spirit. Unfortunately for him, his adoptive big sister has other ideas. Ideas that involve too-tight pants, a baggie full of purple glitter, and worst of all: a Junior-Senior prom ticket.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

First off, fake dating! How could things possibly go right? Not only that it was an enemy to lovers type romance, that is like the epitome of my existence!

I love when people open up and learn things about people, and their whole view changes. Just a reminder to not judge a book by its cover. You never know what exactly someone has been through and how they take things may be different then how we would.

Anyways! Back to the book!

There was a lot of humor, and the book took the reader on a ride through Nolan’s days of high school. The narrative was super witty and hilarious! Talked about issues that young gay high school boys face, from bullying to dating and of course gym class.

There were parts of the book that were really confusing. It felt as if it was skipping through as if the reader was already in the know. I felt I had to puzzle a lot of part together and there could have been more description of things. I was also super annoyed with how lacking the communication was, especially about their feelings. Maybe that is just because I’m not in High School anymore and over all that drama.

But, overall, this is a super cute, quick, feel good story that has a happy ending! There is always room for some LGBTQA representation in the book world!
